Lagos is a survival city, as a matter of fact, Nigeria as a whole.
The best way to manage traffic however in Lagos is to adjust one’s timing. For example, if you have a flight for 3pm, it’s always safer to leave at least 3 hours earlier, in order not to miss your flight.
And also, if you’re a newbie in Lagos, please prepare your mind and learn patience especially because of the traffic jam which can take up to hours. Planning goes a long way and have back up plans as well. Motorcycles can go a long way…. in terms of getting to your destination on time.
Managing traffic in Lagos means firstly “living and accepting” it as part of the ways of life of a typical Lagos State citizen.
Secondly, the situation can be intelligently managed. Study the general traffic pattern and use it to pick the perfect time for you to be on the road.
Thirdly, if I am joining a public bus, I “ll rather board a Govt BRT bus, if it’s available on that route rather than joining many of this rickety Commuter buses. Riding in an A/C bus is far better because of the obvious comfort rather than experiencing discomfort and heat during traffic lockdown.
Finally for car owners, if it is not extremely important to go out with your car, ride on UBER, Bolt and the likes to your destination. They are reasonably affordable. At least, that would remove the stress of driving if you are stuck in traffic. This is what I do this days.
