The simple answer is no one can actually stay away from sin on his/her power but by the power of the holy Spirit..
First Acknowledge that you are a sinner.
secondly ask God for mercy and stay away from bad friends and things that will make you to commit sin.
The simple answer I can offer is GRACE. You and I are saved by Grace. No one has effort attributed to it. Ephesians 2:8-9
To be born again, is just to confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus is Lord. Romans 10: 9-10.
Then for sin, GRACE is still the answer. Wherever you see the abundance sin, Grace is always much more available in such situation. Romans 5:20.
So one should consciously walk away from sin because you can’t say I can continue to sin since grace is available. Romans 6:1

1 john 3 vs 9 say ” Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin, for his seed remaineth in him; and he cannot sin, because is born of God.(KJV)
How does one gets born of God? It is by first acknowledging yourself as a sinner, then you such a person prays confessing, repenting and forsaking those sins and godly sorrow must be involved in all of these. If this is done sincerely, the Spirit of God will bear witness with such a person’s spirit that His/Her sins are forgiven and that He/She is now a child of God (Romans 8:16). Joy like a river will flood such a soul because his/her load/burden of sin has been lifted off him/her.
2 Corinthians 5 vs 17 says “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
From the foregoing backed by the Scripture, It is crystal clear that it is possible not to commit sin only if you have the seed of God in you which is made possible by the cleansing effect in the Blood of Jesus. The first application of the blood of Jesus takes away the sins you have committed while the second application of the Blood of Jesus which leads to Entire Sanctification(The second work of Grace) brings about removal of the Adamic(Sin) nature.
Salvation is like cutting a tree without uprooting it from the root, over time it will still germinate. Sanctification is the total pulling down of the tree from its root.After these two christian experiences, one must on daily basis consecrate by way of prayers, digging deep in God’s word and watching(Romans 12:1-2). This is necessary because the devil, our adversary as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour(1 Peter 5:8). Sanctification could also mean a state of being holy and the Bible says in Hebrews 12:14 “Follow peace with all men, and holiness,without which no man shall see the lord.
I hope you now believe that it is possible to be in this world and not commit sin?
This is not a question you answer by just quoting bible passages, because it is an existential question that affects everyone with a genuine intent of wanting to live right. The truth is in our very nature we can’t do right at all times, but it is our responsibility by the help of spirit to daily work on ourselves and ensure that we live by the instructions of the spirit (the word of word). This will help us to daily not give in to the wrong desires welling inside of us.
As per what it means to be born again or the act of repentance. Being born again is beyond repeating whatever one is asked to repeat which serves as a sign of being born again. Being born again is a conscious decision made to change ones mind, a conscious effort made to transform one’s life for the better.
