Well, age 12 is really something. I’ll advice however:

    1. Strengthening your relationship with the child such that he/she gets to trust you and as such is free to share with you.

    2. Also, be open to such child by sharing some of your experiences that could be beneficial to the discussion.

    3. Lovingly, remind during your discussion with the child, the pros and cons of having a relationship at that early stage, dwelling more on the negative influence.

Well, it shouldn’t just start when the child is 12, good morals, virtues and values are built and embedded into children as they grow such that it becomes a part of them when they are older. And even though you can’t go everywhere with them, those virtues you have instilled in them would go with them everywhere so you wouldn’t have to worry so much about them and what they would do when you aren’t there.

Also build a friendly relationship with your child such that they’ll feel free to discuss their secrets with you.

The key to this is to maintain closeness with the child. Come down to their level and engage in constant talking and dialogue with the child but in a rather very subtle and friendly way. It is important to let the young ones know that things like that are meant for grown ups of 18 yrs and above.

It’s also very important to monitor what that watch on air (television etc)

It’s important to remember that 12 is a very young age to be dating. Children at this age are still developing emotionally and physically, and they may not be ready for the emotional and physical intimacy that comes with dating. Additionally, dating can be a distraction from school and other important activities.

If you are concerned about your child dating, here are some things you can do:

TALK TO YOUR CHILD ABOUT YOUR CONCERNS.

Explain to them why you think they are too young to date, and what the risks of dating at this age can be.

    SET CLEAR RULES AND BOUNDARIES.

Let your child know that you are not comfortable with them dating, and set rules about how much time they can spend with their partner, where they can go, and what they can do.

    MONITOR YOUR CHILD’S ONLINE ACTIVITY.

Children often use social media and other online platforms to communicate with their partners. Make sure you are aware of what they are doing online, and who they are communicating with.

    BE A SUPPORTIVE PARENT/GUARDIAN.

Let your child know that you love them and that you are there for them, no matter what. This will help them feel comfortable coming to you if they have any problems or concerns.
