From what I know it would be west Africa. Yeah and even in Nigeria in the days you could also trace it to the Western part of Nigeria and the great Benin empire of then. And looking at the whole of West Africa, Ghana has some pretty impressive metal works
Blacksmiths first emerged in West Africa around. They were feared in some societies for their skill in metalworking, which was considered a form of magic. They were also much admired and held high social status. In Nigeria however, it can be traced back to some places in the western region such as the people of the Benin Empire.
